Our Power Tools for Living Summer Day Camp will not be offered in Summer 2020 while we focus on further developing our trauma-focused individual and group programming. See 2020 Osage Strong Flyer on the Documents page for more detail.

In Power Tools for Living, children are given the opportunity, through working with horses, to experientially discover six core mental health constructs vital to emotional health. As participants in the program work with horse (sensitive creatures who mirror emotion and give immediate and honest feedback to the participants attitudes and actions) they learn about the impact of their communications, actions and problem-solving skills.

In a positive, non-threatening environment, while carrying out assigned tasks with the horses, participants are given the rare opportunity to practice the vital life skills of Respect, Responsibility, Relationship Skills, Empathy, Boundaries, and Choices/Consequences. The acquisition of these core emotional health constructs empowers our campers and enables them to recognize their best self-perhaps for the first time.

Campers are encouraged to use the new “tools” to stretch and grow emotionally. The program facilitates the rapid acquisition of social and emotional intelligence, which empowers participants and gives them a fresh sense of self and a hope and belief in their ability to effect a positive impact on their current lives and future (self-efficacy).

The Power Tools for Living Program was developed by Robert Magnelli, Ph.D. and Nancy Magnelli, B.S., R.N. It has been adapted by the Osage Corral for a weekly day camp format. Three years of independent testing of our camps have produced positive outcomes!

This experience is designed to provide a fun, normative learning experience for the child who is suitable for an intensive group setting.
